Google Sitemaps
Google wants that, your site get listed as fast as possible. To
attain this, Google has released a new program, called Google
Sitemaps. This helps to provide more information to spiders to
crawl more your site and collect all information present in your
website.
Basically, you create a sitemap of your site, using the XML
format defined by Google, and you tell them where it is. Google
then uses the information in this sitemap to find all the pages on
your site faster.
Google uses programs like spiders and crawlers to search the
content of your website. Once they are found in the site they
follow all the links and gather all necessary information from
your website. These programs periodically revisit your site and
find new or edited content.
Google Sitemaps is an experiment in web crawling. By using
Sitemaps, Google is increasing its coverage of the web and also
speeding up the discovery and addition of pages to its index.
If you are using dynamic content and links that are not easily
discovered by spiders than you can provide sitemap to Google.
This will help spiders to know that what URL’s are present on your
website and how often they change.
A Sitemap provides an additional view into your site. This program
does not replace our normal methods of crawling the web. Google
still searches and indexes your sites in the same way that it used
earlier. A Sitemap simply gives Google additional information,
sometimes not discovered by spiders.
Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make
it universally accessible this collaborative crawling system will
allow crawlers to optimize the usefulness of Google's index for
users by improving its coverage and freshness.
The goal of Google Sitemaps is to provide a method of
getting more pages in Google’s index and notifying updates to
Google as soon as they occur. It is also helpful in determining
the pagerank of a website.
The most powerful aspect of the new Google sitemaps
features is the ability to quickly and easily identify errors on
your website which may upset search engine spiders. If you get the
specific information, it is very easy for a webmaster to quickly
fix the problem. Google sitemaps has the potential to point
out errors on your site that you may not have discovered on your
own.
